Activity Report: Santa Cruz River Park JMI

Completed 6/9/07 with 91 participants
The 2007 "Just Move It" Summer Fitness Series is a competitive and non-competitive fun run/walk event.  It is in second year with collaboration between the Tucson Indian Center, Pascua Yaqui Health Department and the Tohono O'odham Healthy O'odham Promotion Program.  The series kicked-off its first run/walk on the morning of Saturday, June 9, 2007 at the Native American Family Wellness Day along the Santa Cruz River Park.  Healthy Refreshments, beverages, a JMI t-shirt and prizes for the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Place male and female runners were provided for the participants.  It was a social gathering for youths, adults and elders.  The event was a success!  We had a total of 91 walkers and runners.

Best Features:
The run/walk provided a place for social networking. It allowed community members to socialize and make new friends in a healthy atmosphere while promoting health and wellness.

Creative Features:
Hosting the event at the Native American Family Wellness Day event and strengthing collaboration efforts with the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and Tohono O'odham Nation.

Challenges:
Planning went smoothly with support and help of various programs.

Future Plans:
We have planned for four other run/walks in the JMI Summer Fitness Series taking place during the months of June and July.
