Program Description
Tracking daily steps and reporting every two weeks, aiming for 10,000 steps.

Program Purpose
The purpose of the Soggy Walkers program is to get people to walk, aiming for 10,000 steps each day.

Program Key Features
* Since we have such rainy weather in southeast Alaska, the CWA program came up with the name "Soggy Walkers." * Each person sets their own personal goal and keeps track on the calendar provided. * Steps are reported every two weeks. Each person who hands in their steps gets their name in a drawing for a door prize. * Families are encouraged to participate together. * Pedometers are provided to individuals who haven't received one yet under a previous promotion.

Most Excited About
Although everyone keeps track of their steps individually, this is a program that is community wide, available to all ages. We encourage families to participate together.

Program Location
We don't need special equipment for this program--each person tracks their own activity, whether it's done indoors, at the gym, at home, or outdoors.

Program Partners
The SEARHC (Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium) CWA's came up with the name "Soggy Walkers," and made up calendars (with a drawing of a person walking in the rain with rubber boots), guidelines and an info sheet "Honoring the Gift of Food." This has been used over the years in several communities in Alaska.
