Contributed by: National Coordinator
Date: 4/4/05

A consortium of 6 Michigan tribes (Little Traverse Bay Band; Grand Traverse Band; Little River Band; Gun Lake Band; Huron Band; and Pokagon Band) are partnering to defeat diabetes by organizing a walking program.

On April 15, 2005, participants will be walking a 414-mile virtual path that connects each of the 6 tribes. The virtual path will have highlights / check points to teach about cultural and historical components of the tribes.

Each participant will receive a logbook and record their activities. Participants will be completing the virtual walk on August 19, 2005 at the Grand Traverse Band Powwow.

Please visit each tribe’s dot on the map above to find out more about their ’Just Move It’ effort. This partnership of the 6 tribes is an example of how to get Native people moving.
